An analysis of studies has produced what its authors describe as a precise description of the beneficial effects of nut consumption on cholesterol and other heart-related fats.

It provides "the best evidence yet that eating nuts reduces LDL cholesterol and improves the blood lipids profile," said Dr. Joan Sabate, who chairs the nutrition department at the Loma Linda University School of Public Health in California and was a co-author of the report, published May 10 in Archives of Internal Medicine.

There are many unhealthy fats. However, there are two "good fats":

1. Mono-unsaturated fatty acids. That's the stuff you get from EVOO (extra virgin Olive oil). Other good sources are Avocadoes-- and most nuts. Almonds are a particularly good source.

2. Omega 8 Fatty Acids. That's the stuff that's highest in Salmon. Also most cold water fish-- Sardines, herring, etc.

Interestingly, some nuts & seeds have these as well-- best source is Flax seeds (must be ground before suing)-- Walnuts and Pumpkin seeds are also good. (Although in this case animal sources have benefits most plant sources don't. A fish oil cap is good insurance!)

Use only "Wild caught' Salmon (although it costs more).

And its preferable to eat organic food as much as possible.

Ditto....I also eat nuts every day and gobs of fruit. I had the best plum today, also the last of the summer blueberries, a gala apple and a banana!

Krishna & Chuck,

We all seem to have something in common. We care about our bodies. Cool.

IMO a lot of disease is preventable-- at least when people are young and middle age. But people are getting medical conditions more and more at earlier ages. i think a lot of it is unecessary...

I have a buddy in Qatar who is the same age as I am. He smokes, eats poorly, and does no exercises. He has all sorts of medical problems that are preventable. His ailments are unnecessary. It's a shame he's stubborn.........

Although some nuts are also high in fat, like almonds and peanuts.

Most nuts are high in fat, so one shouldn't overeat them. However, its "healthy fat"...mono unsaturated (the same healthy fat found in Olive oil) , and asome such as Walnuts also have "Omega 3"-- similar to the healthy fat in Salmon and Sardines.

Many seeds have the same fats but in lower quantities. (Flax seed, pumpkin seeds are especially good).
